10 Deadly Sins of a Dying Church (Source: www.ministrybestpractices.com ) 1. Doctrinal Drift In a desire to reach more people, churches have often watered-down doctrinal truths believing that they are creating a more inviting environment for seekers. The Word of God may not be very sensitive to an unbeliever, but it should be intelligible. Make no mistake, the younger generation likes straight-talk. They are tired of the mush. 2. Evangelism Atrophy Most churches in America aspire to have evangelism as a driving force but they have lost their passion. Ask every one of them, however, and they will proclaim it as a core value. Yet, a quick look at their checkbook, annual budget and programs will tell the truth. For most churches in America evangelism is a great thought and desire, but in all actuality very little in the way of evangelism is done. 3. Failure To Be Relevant The Gospel was not written in a cultural vacuum. The words we read today were written thousands of years ago. They sti

Mission of Jesus: Being the Church

This is a facinating subject to me. In the design of God, His followers are to continue the mission of Jesus' love in this world. Unfortunately, the church has turned it's focus inward and the outward has been stiffled. See my previous post. Loving God and Loving Others is building the Kingdom. Let's join in.

What Are We Talking About?

I stand amazed at the Christian community ... a group of potential 'world-changers' who have themselves had a life change by the power of Christ's cleansing blood and the indwelling Holy Spirit. But 'world-changing' has taken a back seat to completely other focuses. For example, a recent Twitter post by a real sweet lady in Nashville speaks loudly: sitting in starbucks, listening to pastors "disagree" nastily about their church. so glad a room full of people get to see grace this way... ! Get my point? Christians, whether pew warmers or leaders are so out-of-focus of the mission Jesus began, that the Twitter post mentioned above is an example of what's been going on before a watching world for decades. Another example of Christ's family out-of-touch with His mission is the use of the word "ministry". I have been closely around a 'Christian' organization that proclaims itself involved with and actively performing 'ministry'

Lobstah!

Check this out! Found this on Yahoo! They say to buy and eat this big boy it would've cost you over $100. Here's the picture and story: Jan. 10: Neil Robinson, of Portsmouth N.H., carries a 140-year-old, 20-pound lobster onto the rocks in Kennebunkport, Maine, to be released. The lobster was confined to a tank at a New York City seafood restaurant for about 10 days until the restaurant had a change of heart and agreed to let People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals return the lucky lobster, named George, to Kennebunkport, where he was be released back into the sea.
