Adventures in the South

On July 29th following AGF worship, Kathy and I drove south in our 2003 Caravan with 180,000 miles! It was about 12:30pm and we took a break about 4 hrs later very near the Tappen Zee Bridge. By midnight we were in the DC area and at around 4am we stopped for a short sleep at the NC Welcome Center. Now before all the drama that surrounded Chick-fil-A, I told Kat that it would be really nice to try one out as they are few and far between up north. We found the best of all at around 7am in Roanoke Rapids, NC where the was a Chick-fil-A next to a Starbucks Coffee in front of a Walmart off I-95! We both had a nice breakfast sandwich, I enjoyed a cup of coffee and a stop at the Super Center yielded the item I needed to keep our cell phones charged. Great stop! Now onto Savannah, GA!  Old Savannah We arrived in Georgia about 2pm. We had a room booked at the Savannah HIExpress. This was Monday July 30. So we had supper and just relaxed ... showering and enjoying the A/C as it was hot a

I Read Pete Wilson's Blog with GREAT INTEREST

Pete Wilson in Franklin, TN wrote this on his blog: There’s an article in the July issue of  Church Executive  that just came out last week entitled “Who Speaks Up?” I was skimming the article nodding along with most of what the author was saying until I saw my name. Then all of the sudden it became personal and I stopped to reflect. Ron Keener wrote, “I have to wonder: Who speaks for the church now? Billy Graham is 94 in November and we miss his presence in the pulpit. Franklin Graham has a strong message but his attention is rightfully overseas and focused on the parachurch. When CNN’s Larry King wanted a point of view from the evangelical church he went to Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson, as if either of them really spoke for the church-at-large. Occasionally John McArthur, now 72, showed up at the “Kings Table,” and one or two other well-known preachers. Many of the best speakers for the faith, and for the church in the world, keep busy with their own congregations an

stuck ...

I've waited much too long to post anything. I am waiting no longer. I must say, though ... I FEEL STUCK ... I was reminded of something while reading 1 Kings 18, the account of Elijah and the Baal worshipers. In verse 21 Elijah confronts the Baal crowd and asks a question, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." These words remind me that we, too, falter between two opinions ... God's and those silly voices in the head that try to talk us away from following God -- EVERY MOMENT and IN EVERY WAY. Of course, God's way is perfect, honorable, righteous and good. And ours ... well ... you know! Lately I've recommitted myself to early rising, early reading and early prayer. I have found in these times of my life, I am able to war off those opinions in my head and want to -- even desire to follow God's Word fully. I've been saddened, while reading through the Kings, to read of many of I
